Dear conqueror in Christ:
I am reaching out to urge you to make every effort to conquer faintheartedness. Simply put, faintheartedness is being timid, lacking courage and resolution. It is a disease that keeps too many people from fulfilling their God-given potentials. Faintheartedness is displayed in the story of the Israelites as they journeyed to the Promised Land. Upon exploring the land, the majority members of the exploration party came to this negative conclusion: “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” (Num 13:31). They became so discouraged that they said to themselves : “Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”(Numbers 14:3-4). Let’s consider some empowering keys to conquer this awful disease.
There are three specific C words that can lead us to victory. The first C word is Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith. He teaches us that “Everything is possible for him who believes” (Mark 9:23). Christ empowers us with the second C word, namely confidence, the weapon to overcome all obstacles. Caleb is a great example among the group displaying confidence when he exhorted his brothers: “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Num 13:30). The third C word is courage, the moral and mental strength we need to face danger and pain. For we are convinced that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy 1:7). Using the confidence and courage gained through Christ, let’s keep faintheartedness far away behind us.
